You will need to send us a table with your applicants’ names, email addresses, and desired programs and semesters of study by the following deadlines:
International Profile and general exchanges
- Fall or fall/winter semester: March 20
- Winter semester: October 1
- Exception: March 20 only for architecture and graphic design
- Email address: etudiantsentrants@bi.ulaval.ca
BCI exchanges (maximum of 6 per institution)
- Fall or fall/winter semester: March 1
- Email address: etudiantsentrants@bi.ulaval.ca
The application package must include the following:
- Official transcripts from all university studies (must be in French, English, or Spanish).
- A list of courses approved by the partner institution. The list of courses available for the exchange semester is not yet known. The course list to be submitted with the application package is a list of desired courses. We cannot guarantee access to these courses as your students will not be able to register until they arrive at Université Laval once their admission is finalized.
- A French test score (for non-francophone students). Université Laval recommends the TFI (Test de français international). The minimum TFI score for admission in a regular program is 750/990. Equivalent scores on other recognized French tests such as DELF or DALF are also acceptable. This testing requirement does not apply to students who register for French as a Foreign Language or French as a Second Language courses.
- A portfolio (for students in architecture, visual arts, and graphic design).
- Upon receipt of this information, we will check whether the number of applications and the programs chosen match our agreement. If they do, we will send each applicant an online application form to complete. If not, we will notify you.
- Acceptance of the applications you submit is conditional on compliance with the agreement between your institution and Université Laval.
- Under the BCI exchange program or a general agreement, student admission is subject to approval by the director of the program selected by the student. Some programs do not accept exchange students. View the list of programs that accept BCI exchange students and programs that accept general agreement exchange students (in French only).
- BCI exchanges: The application package must include the BCI form.
- Once the application process is complete, the International Office will notify each applicant of the decision. You will be copied on the email. Responses are generally sent out in May. Once they have been accepted, students can begin the immigration process.
- Your applicants’ level of French must correspond to a score of at least 750 on the TFI or a DELF/DALF of B2 (FSL/FFL students excepted).
- BCI exchanges: Test results certifying the required level must be enclosed with the student’s application package.
- Bilateral agreement: Students from non-francophone institutions who do not submit test results will be required to take the online test administered by Université Laval’s École de Langues (ÉLUL), as will non-francophone students. - If your students do not have the required level of French proficiency, they can take French as a Foreign Language (FFL) courses at École des langues during the summer semester, or even during the fall and winter semesters. Activity fees apply for these courses.
- If your students are accepted, they will be admitted into a program of study (French only) in which they must take most of their courses.
- Université Laval health and hospitalization insurance is compulsory and cannot be replaced by a personal insurance policy. Some international students may be exempt from the Université Laval health insurance plan. Click for more information.
- Exchange students can live in residence on campus. A limited number of rooms are set aside for exchange students. Applicants will receive a special reservation form for exchange students when they complete their application form. We recommend that they wait for confirmation of admission before reserving a room. It should be noted that leases are for eight months. Students who come for a single semester will have to cancel their lease as indicated in their contract. Allowances should therefore be made for the termination fee. Note: The schools of art, design, and architecture are located off the main campus.
- Transcripts: In accordance with Canada’s Privacy Act, the Registrar’s Office sends transcripts to students, not to educational institutions. If you wish to have a transcript sent directly to your home institution’s international relations department, you must make a request at the Registrar’s Office and pay the supplemental transcript fee.
