Contribution to Université Laval

As was decided through a referendum held among the members of CADEUL, the undergraduate student union, a contribution of $5 per semester is collected from each CADEUL student member.

The contributions go to the Fonds étudiant de développement de la vie universitaire (student fund for the development of university life), which is administered by Université Laval. The purpose of the fund is to invest in the development and maintenance of physical spaces to promote innovation, project development, societal engagement, and campus life.

Tax receipts are issued for amounts donated to Université Laval.

Though the contribution is billed automatically, it is optional and voluntary. If you wish to opt out of paying this contribution, you must notify Université Laval’s Registrar's Office at droitsscolarite@reg.ulaval.ca during the semester for which the contribution is billed. Note that the opt-out request will apply only for that semester.

Student investment funds

Student investment funds are development tools for ULaval faculties and their students. The first fund was created in 1988 by students from the Faculty of Science and Engineering. There are now over 15 funds. Students at Université Laval were the first in Canada to develop this kind of support mechanism.

Student investment funds are used primarily to improve the learning environment and tools that faculties provide to their students. The principle behind these funds is partnership. For the majority of funds, when a student registers for a semester:

  • the student automatically contributes $15 to the fund
  • Université Laval pays $35
  • the Faculty pays $5

Many projects have been implemented since the funds were first created thanks to the determination of UL students. Each year, several hundred thousand dollars go toward purchasing IT and scientific equipment, acquiring databases and journals, developing Library collections, upgrading classrooms, developing teaching tools, and acquiring other material and equipment to improve university activities.

Contributions to these funds are added to the tuition fees eligible for a tuition tax credit. If you wish to opt out of this contribution, you must contact the Registrar's Office (droitsscolarite@reg.ulaval.ca) and provide your name, file number, and program. You can then deduct this amount from your total tuition. Opt-out requests must be made as soon as possible and only apply for the semester in which the request is made.
