Fees and budgeting
A university education is an investment and costs a considerable sum of money. Québec City has a relatively low cost of living and reasonably priced housing compared to most North American cities, which helps make Université Laval an affordable study destination. However, careful financial planning is essential to ensure you have the financial resources necessary to meet your needs and pay for your studies.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees are based on your study profile and the number of credits per semester that you register for.
The amount you pay each semester includes basic tuition as well as ancillary fees for student services, academic support, and student associations.

Canadian students (non-Québec residents)
Tuition fees for Canadian students from outside Québec are comparable to those at universities in their home province. You may qualify for a tuition fee exemption scholarship if you are enrolled in French language or literature courses or a PhD program.

French citizens and French Belgium citizens
Québec have signed agreements with France and Belgium so that French citizens and French Belgium citizens in undergraduate and graduate programs can benefit from lower tuition fees.

International students
Tuition fees for international students enrolled at ULaval include basic tuition fees and a lump sum. However, there is a Supplemental Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship that exempts eligible students from paying the lump sum usually required. If you qualify for this program, you will pay the same tuition as a Québec student.
Université Laval has expanded its Supplemental Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship Program for doctoral students so that all international students enrolled in a full-time regular PhD program are eligible.
Some refugees, diplomatic personnel, and personnel from non-governmental international organizations are exempted from additional tuition fees. If you qualify for one of these exemptions, you will pay the same tuition fees as Québec students.

Distance learning
Tuition fees for distance learning are based on your study profile and the number of credits per semester that you register for.
French immersion courses
Canadian (non-Québec) and international applicants qualify for a tuition exemption for taking French immersion courses as part of their undergraduate program. Students are charged the Québec rate for French courses. Support and supervision fees are added to tuition up to a maximum of $320 per semester.
This exemption does not apply to prerequisite courses or courses from your program that are charged based on the rate applicable to the student’s status.
